Classic Mode

How it works

  • Press the ball. Every press deals you a random nation and a random decade โ€” 1890s England, 1970s West Indies, 2020s Indiaโ€ฆ
  • Choose your era first. Test lets you pick how far back to reach โ€” Full Archive for the whole story, Vintage XI for the 1940s onward, Colour TV Era for the 1970s onward, or Hawk-Eye Era for the 2000s onward. ODI keeps it simple: Whites for everything, or Coloured Kit Era for the 1990s onward. T20's whole history already fits in one era, so there's nothing to choose.
  • Pick from the whole squad. Every available player from that nation's decade comes up. Choose one, then choose where he goes in your batting order.
  • Every player is rated for his own decade โ€” how he ranked among his contemporaries. A 97 from the โ€™80s is every bit as good as a 97 from today.
  • Fill the card your way. Openers up top, bowlers at the death โ€” but there's no fixed slot for the keeper any more, he just needs to be somewhere in your side. All-rounders slot in based on how they actually played: some open, some finish. Players with no legal spot left simply won't appear. And you still get one do-over per game for a hopeless draw.
  • Set your lineup, then pick a captain. Before the tour starts, fine-tune your order โ€” tap or drag to swap anyone into a different spot โ€” then name your captain. Players batting in their correct position give the team a small boost, and so does a captain with a genuine, real-world winning record for that side.
  • Beat them all, at their place. Your XI tours the world: a five-match series against each of todayโ€™s eleven international sides, played across real grounds in their country, before a five-match finale at Lord's against a randomly-drawn World All-Star XI โ€” sixty matches in total. Win matches, win series, sweep one 5-0 โ€” that's what separates a good tour from a legendary one.

Fair warning: the draw doesn't care about your plans. Sometimes you need a spinner and it deals you the 1984 West Indies pace battery.
